The Dominican Republic has eight international airports spread across the country and able to handle flights coming from all over the world, as well as some aerodromes for domestic flights.
The Dominican international airports are:
Las Américas International Airport (Santo Domingo), also known as “José Francisco Peña Gómez Airport”: This is the country’s main airport. It is located at about 30 minutes away from the country’s capital city, Santo Domingo, to its east, and it is near the touristic areas of Boca Chica and Juan Dolio.
La Isabela International Airport (Higuero), also known as “Dr. Joaquín Balaguer Airport”: it is located 16 kilometres north from Santo Domingo, it mainly handles domestic flights but also those to Haiti.
Punta Cana International Airport (Punta Cana): It is located 30 minutes away from the island’s most important coastal touristic areas: Bávaro, El Cortecito, Arena Gorda, Macao and Uvero Alto. It is the airport that receives the higher number of passengers in the Dominican Republic.
Gregorio Luperón International Airport (Puerto Plata), also known as “International Airport of Puerto Plata”: it is located in the north coast, at a 20 minutes’ ride by car to the east end of Puerto Plata.
La Romana International Airport (La Romana), also known as “Casa de Campo International Airport”: it is located in the southeast coast, 10 minutes away from Casa de Campo Resort and 20 minutes away from Bayahibe.
El Catey International Airport (Samaná), also known as “Juan Bosch Airport”: it is located at about 30 minutes from Samaná and at about 45 minutes from Cosón, Las Terrenas and Portillo, in the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic.
El Cibao International Airport (Santiago): It handles incoming international and domestic flights to the inland as well as serving as an easy access point to La Vega, Jarabacoa, Constanza, San Francisco De Macoris and Moca.
María Montez International Airport (Barahona): It is located in the country’s southeastern end and handles mainly domestic flights, nevertheless, it is prepared for international flights.
Aerodromes handle short-haul domestic flights and they can be the best option for moving about fast within the country. The main aerodromes are:
Arroyo Barril Aerodrome, Samaná.
Constanza’s Aerodrome, located in the central mountainous region.
Cabo Rojo’s Aerodrome, Pedernales.
Montecristi’s Aerodrome.
