The region of Cibao is one of the most important touristic areas in the Dominican Republic’s northern coast. Along its coastline, from Las Galeras, in Sanamá’s Peninsula, to Montecristi, there are different cities and villages that offer not only a great variety of adventure, nature and leisure, but also some of the top beaches of the country. It is easy to access to Cibao thanks to its proximity to the International Airport of Puerto Plata.
One of the most interesting areas is the Peninsula of Sanamá because of its offer of rural and eco-friendly tourism. Sanamá is the perfect destination for those who enjoy nature due to its amazing natural surroundings, for example Los Haitises National Park, Marine Mammals Sanctuary and El Limón Waterfall, and of course Las Terrenas’ idyllic and incredible beaches.
The province of Puerto Plata possesses almost everything: adventure, entertainment, ecotourism, beaches, history, etc. In San Felipe de Puerto Plata, its capital city, you can climb and explore Isabel de Torres Hill. In Villa Isabela, you will have the chance to know the story of the first european settlers. You can have a relaxing sunbathe or practise aquatic sports like surf, windsurfing or diving in Sosúa and Cabarete. You can live an adventure in the circuit of Damajagua’s Twenty Seven Waterfalls and in the village of Guananico.
There are more options for spending your spare time in the Dominican northern coast: you can practise surf in the famous Grande Beach in Río San Juan; nevertheless, the best place to relax and rest is Nagua, due to its idyllic beaches, as in Santa Cruz de Mao, where you can have a break in the incredible Spa of Ámina. Finally, the nature of Dajabón and Montecristi will amaze you.
