La Romana receives its name from an old Roman weighing scale used to weight goods in the port and which belonged to an Italian family. Its main economic activities are tourism, industry, and trade which make it the second richest city in the country. The main reason of its economic development is tourism as the many attractions and wonderful tourist infrastructures in the area prompted it to become one of the most popular destinations in the country.

Some of the most renowned places in the city are La Romana Obelisk, Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima Church, Central Park, Rotonda Park or monument to the Bible in the same city. In the area of La Romana, there are lots of places to visit like Casa de Campo, Altos de Chavón, Bayahibe or Este National Park.

Don’t miss the chance to take part in the several golf tournaments that take place in the area, or to attend any of the baseball matches from the regular or final seasons.
