The Province of San Cristóbal is one of the most touristic provinces in the Dominican Republic because of its important capital city, San Cristóbal. This capital city is one of the largest cities in the country, it is about 30 km away from the capital city of the country and it is located in a small valley of the Cordillera Central between Nigua River and Nizao River.
This province is bordered to the east by Santo Domingo city, to the west by The Province of Peravia and to the northwest by San José de Ocoa Province. It was founded in 1932 and originally named as Trujillo in honour of the Dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, who founded the city. After his death, it was renamed as San Cristóbal for being the capital city of the province.
The main economic activities of the province and the city are industry, small-scale agriculture, port activities and, of course, tourism.
Some of the main touristic attractions of the region are its cultural heritage and the extraordinary beauty of its idyllic beaches. Besides, the province is washed by the Caribbean Sea, which is one of the most attractive and beautiful seas in the world.
