Elías Piña is not a very touristic area. During the war against Haiti, it was witness of incessant battles due to its border location. This region was the setting for the Estrelleta Battle, one of the country’s most important combats after their statement of independence.

Its economy is mainly based on agriculture and stockbreeding, and the trade with Haiti is stronger every day. The savannah is the main ecosystem except for the mountains, where it is possible to find humid forests, mainly composed of pines.

Come and visit Bánica, and visit Central Park, where the famous sundial is located; or visit Saint Francis of Assisi Colonial Church, located just opposite to the park.

Don’t miss the chance to visit the Frontier Culture Museum, where you can learn everything about Dominican frontier life and culture through a series of exhibitions where several works from the local artists are displayed.
