Pelempito’s Hole (Hoyo de Pelempito) is a hollow that is 700 metres below sea level, and has an extension of about 10 square metres; the walls that delimit it are 600 metres high. It is located in the western end of the Bahoruco Mountain Range.
This natural spot is covered with tropical forests and formed by peaks that reach heights of 2600 metres. The hole was created by a landslide that broke and moved the near rocks; the subsidence of a huge coral reef and the tectonic movements of the nearby faults gave it its peculiar shape.
You can find lots of information about this spot in the tourist info point, that has been built completely on wood and it is located 1165 metres above sea level, making the building fuse with the stunning environment.
