While you are in the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo, you will be able to get around via the metropolitan underground network.
Even though the country does not have a railway system, in Santo Domingo, they do have an underground network. This service only has two lines that link the north with the south and the east with the west. Its trains are completely comfortable, since they are new, modern and perfectly fitted for their duty.
Single, one-way tickets cost 20 RD$ approximately, but you can also buy a reusable pass.
The underground’s opening hours are 6:00 to 22:30 from monday through friday and from 6:00 to 22:00 on saturdays, sundays and holidays. The train frequency usually is of about a minute and a half, so you won’t have to wait for a long time to board in.
It is advisable to avoid the rush hour, since the underground is packed with students and clerks coming back home and it could be a little bit stressful.
