Visit Fortaleza San Luis Fortress, one of the most important monuments in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros, in the Dominican Republic.
The construction of this fortress was already planned before 1660 to defend their borders from the French enemy. The Treaty of Basel, made in honor of King Louis XIV, was signed in it. Besides, in this fortress it was hoisted the first Dominican flag.
As for its architecture: the loopholes reproduce the Masonic symbolism (Loopholes: vertical, narrow and deep opening made in some defensive walls to shoot arrows with bows or crossbows); its entrance is four metres wide and six high and it has a carnapel with a wide frame.
On the north side, you will find the clock tower, which is publicly exposed and formed by three bodies.
