Discover the province of El Seibo (also known as Seybo), one of the Dominican Republic most important provinces, while exploring its landscapes and mountain sports.
The province already existed in the land division previous to the 1844 Constitution, and the city was established by Juan de Esquivel, a conquistador, in 1502. Later, the place was the setting of the battles where the Spanish tried to conquer the area from the French.
In El Seibo stands the Santísima Cruz Basilica, Victorian in style, from 1556. This is a must-see since some of the valuable relics it contains date back to the 15th and 16th century.
The area is specially interesting for those who love mountain sports and ecotourism. They will have a wide variety of activities around the mountains that surround the birth of the Seibo river. Don’t miss the chance to visit any of the natural spas that use the water of this river.
In the north of the region stands Lagunas Redonda y Limón Scientific Reserve, where you can see a wide range of birds and other animals living in this protected area.
Close to the lagoons, the visitors can find a typical Dominical town and become part of the daily lives of the locals of Miches, a small fishing town worth visiting.
