Admire the monument to the heroes of Santomé battle, that portrays the battle in which the Dominican army won over the Haitians in their war for the Dominican independence. This battle took place on the 22nd of December in 1855. The monument is placed on the roundabout that is located at the west entrance to the city of San Juan de la Maguana, in the southern end of the Dominican Republic.
This monument commemorates one of the most important battles that the Dominicans won, when they fought against the Haitians commanded by general José María Cabral y Luna and Eusebio Puello. In one of the monument’s sides there is a commemorative nameplate where the names of some of these heroes have been written down.
