Discover the idyllic Duarte Park, located in the very heart of the Colonial City just in front of the Iglesia de los Dominicos Church. The park is surrounded by leafy trees which give shadow to the benches on which you can seat and rest.
In the 19th century, this was the place chosen by the Trinitaria to meet and begin a conspiracy against the Haitian occupation that took place between 1822 and 1844.
Despite the different changes which have been done to the square, the main structure is still the same it had in the 19th century. In 1930, it was erected the statue of the Father of the Nation Juan Pablo Duarte, which is still in the center of the square with his name.
